Dilution is a raid oriented guild on the realm of Malygos. We currently raid four nights a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Raiding starts at 11pm Central Time (Server Time) and ends at 3am.
We originally started out as a Molten Core pick up group. After months of picking up good, consistent players, Dilution was formed. We later moved into Blackwing Lair and in doing so Dilution downed Razorgore and Vaelastrasz in the first week of raiding. That is as far as we made it into Blackwing Lair as the Burning Crusade was about to come out and attendance suffered because of it. This was a “wake up” call for the remaining guild members. These events only increased our drive to becoming a top raiding guild.
In Burning Crusade we cleared everything from SSC to Illidan in BT up to the Twins in Sunwell before WoTL was released. We are currently working on the Lich King in ICC and ramping up for heroic modes.
Dilution is a guild that is primarily made up of twenty to thirty year olds, with a few old farts and a few green horns here and there. All of whom are here for the same reasons; to progress in end game content, and have a great time doing so. Real-life friends are always welcome and Dilution prides itself of having a reasonable member base of non-raiders, or full-time casual players.
The Guild Master of Dilution is Malois. We also have a few Guild Officers that serve to handle administrative duties to keep the GM from being overburdened with guild management tasks all the time. These are Lyta and Alaw. They have the ability to do most all the tasks of the GM, so they are excellent resources for serious issues and/or general guild questions/concerns.
All the officers work together in the decision making process, so no one person has any sway over any other. They operate much more as a council than as GM and officers, and work hard to present a unified front to the guild regarding decisions being made.
The remaining ranks of Dilution consist of all the people that actually get the job done. :-)
We have a new Veteran rank that is designed for people that do their job, every raid, consistently and well. This rank is equal parts commitment to a well played character, but also Dilution as a guild. The people that have this rank will be long-time, well-respected raiders whom all members see as a nearly irreplaceable asset.
The true success of Dilution lies within those at the Member rank. These are full-fledged guild members who have priority on raid spots and loot. This rank comprises the heart and soul of Dilution, and if you're a Member, you're the most vital to the success of the guild. As a member you are expected to make 100% of the raids per week. We understand that RL issues come up and that is no problem. Please make a short post in the attendance forum to let us know when you won't be available and we'll see you when you get back.
For those that can't commit to regular raiding, we have a Non-Raider rank. RL friends who don't have the gear/time to commit to our raiding demands fill this rank, along with old-time guildies that have had RL throw their raiding schedule a curve ball. Non-Raiders can raid, if a spot is open and their gear is acceptable, but they are unable to bid against regular members on loot that drops. Members get demoted to this rank if they go afk without a forum post (or some form of officer notification) for more than 1 raid week (4 raid nights). Non-Raiders will need to attend 100% of raids (the expectation of all members as we only raid 4 nights each week) for two weeks. EP accrues when your raid as a non-member, but you will not have priority over members.
Dilution is alt friendly and as such we have the Alt rank specifically for all the alts of any member, regardless of their rank.
Oh, one more thing. There is the ever-popular S T F U rank. This rank is there specifically for those folks that would rather waste time with drama and arguments then actually raid. Usually this type of crap comes in waves from frustrated or temporarily stupid guild members. We find that a temporary demotion to this rank either weeds out those that don't really want to raid, or causes the temporarily stupid to focus on the task at hand and leave the drama for the forums.
Guild Expectations
To that end, we expect that members of Dilution demonstrate to other people in the guild, as well of the denizens of Malygos, a certain level of conduct. You won't find a list of do's and don'ts here because we are all adult enough to know that certain behavior is frowned upon in most circles.
We ask that you remember the larger guild that you are representing with that Dilution tag under your name, and act as if you belong in a serious progression guild.
Raid Expectations
As with guild expectations, we don't want to make a laundry list of rules when most of our members are not in need of guidance. We will, however, add expectations here when they begin to affect the overall raid performance of the guild.
AFKing in Raid
If you simply AFK in the instance, you are not able to be replaced and we are forced to attempt progression fights with 24 people which is nowhere near ideal.
If you AFK w/o notice for more than 10 minutes, you will assessed a penalty. Every 15 minutes of AFK after that 10 minutes is another penalty until you are timed out of the raid.
In addition to these penalties, you will given lower priority on raid placement for one week.
The easiest way to avoid these situations is to post on the forums and take the raid off, if you are anticipating potential AFK situations. If you are sick, have sick family members, or there are fires sweeping through your neighborhood, take the night off to avoid the high probability of having to AFK. Being considerate of others is something we can all work toward and benefit from.
The sum total is this: If you have to go, close the game and go. If you can say something on vent, even better, but CLOSE THE GAME. It doesn't take that long, no longer than telling someone on the phone that you need to go, instead of just abruptly hanging up.
We have used a traditional kill-reward/bid system up until we progressed into Hyjal. That system suffered from typical DKP problems such as inflation, tedious bidding, runaway DKP with legacy players, etc. Those issues coupled with a policy that automatically geared up the main and offtank meant the dkp system was not equitable especially with the cross class token system Blizzard has implemented for Tier gear.
We have chosen a new system known as EPGP going forward. This system will speed up the looting process and do a much better job of keeping DKP fair and equitable for all classes and all players. For details on how Dilution handles Loot and the EPGP system, there's a ridiculously in-depth post located here: http://dilutionguild.com/index.php?page=79
The guild bank, while a very powerful tool, can become either an always-empty grab-bag, or conversely, a full to the gills lockbox that never seems to open for anyone. We want to make the guild bank a useful tool for everyone, but we must be cautious to ensure that the bank isn't abused by anyone, including officers.
As it stands today, if guild members need raid consumables (pots/food/etc) from the bank, they need to speak with any officer and they will (most likely) grab what you need. For crafting materials, you need to submit a request using this form. That will help us keep track of who gets what regarding limited materials.
We encourage guild members to donate their spare consumables (no junk please) so that others can benefit from your hard work. :-)
As we figure out how we can utilize the bank more effectively, we will change these policies, and we encourage feedback if you have any good ideas.
